Help Keep California State Parks Open!
There is still time to help stop the proposed closures of 48 treasured California State Parks, many of which contain redwoods that Save-the-Redwoods League members like you have helped to protect. Faced with a deficit exceeding $14 billion, California Governor Arnold Schwarzenegger proposed a budget that would cut allocations by 10 percent in all departments, including California State Parks. The Governor will release a revised budget proposal on May 15, 2008. The Senate and the Assembly then must pass a budget bill with a two-thirds vote, and send it to the Governor for his signature. Legislators are discussing the budget, and they need to hear from you now. Send a message to your elected officials, encouraging them to keep the parks open. Ask your friends to do the same by forwarding this e-mail.

1,700 More Acres Protected
From January through April 2008, the League completed seven land projects, totaling more than 1,700 acres, to protect magnificent coast redwoods. Read more about these California projects in the upcoming Fall Bulletin. Thanks to generous members like you, the League has protected more than 180,000 acres and helped develop 53 redwood parks and reserves that capture the diversity of the redwood forest since 1918.

Favorite Redwood Memory
We stopped the car and stepped into an awesome silence. We were enveloped in stillness, no longer hearing our feet on the forest floor. We were surrounded in peace.
