Save-the-Redwoods League is pleased to announce the release of its 2006 Redwood Research Grant Guidelines.

The League is committed to supporting a community of scientists devoted to furthering the field of redwood forest research. Results from the work of past grant recipients have contributed greatly to the League’s forest acquisition, protection and restoration strategies.

Current areas of special interest include:

  • Understanding the effects of natural disturbances on forest development
  • Exploring the potential ecological benefits of forest restoration
  • Understanding and predicting the possible outcomes of human-induced global climate change on redwood forest ecosystems

Grants are awarded to qualified organizations engaged in research that fosters an increased understanding of the coast redwood or giant sequoia and the ecosystems in which they are key components. Individual grant requests should not exceed $15,000. Larger proposals with matching funds are encouraged. Please ensure you review the application guidelines carefully, complete an application form, and submit evidence that your organization is a qualified non-profit or educational institution.

Applications are due by Friday November 10th, 2006.

For scientists working at California Polytechnic San Luis Obispo and Humboldt State University, the League has established a Fellowship to encourage graduate research in the redwood forest. If you are considering applying for the Fellowship or would like to recommend a fellowship project or have any grant related inquiries, please contact Dan Porter.

Thank you for your continued work to save the redwoods. We look forward to reviewing some strong proposals.
