The Healing Power of Redwoods

“It is like being in a cathedral.”

“Ancient spirits of the Native Americans are still living among the redwoods.”

“I always feel healed after a visit to the redwoods.”

These are the kinds of emotions many of us experience in the redwood forest.  The restorative feeling evoked by the redwoods is one of the many things motivating us every day.  We feel this ourselves and we know that you do, too.

One of the League’s generous donors expressed it this way:

“It was in this search that I found a way to express my grief.  It gave me the opportunity to reconnect with my mother in a way that she and I had often done while she was alive . . . through the beauty and healing power of nature.”

– Andrea Speraw, at the dedication of the memorial grove in honor of her mother, Ruth Krag Speraw

Now, two of the League’s Councilors are arranging a “healing walk in the redwoods” for a very special group at one of the San Francisco Bay Area redwood parks.  With their permission, we will share photos and stories from that healing walk.

Do you have a healing story about the redwood forest?  Post a comment and share it with us.

I am forever changed by the experience of visiting the Redwood Groves. The connection was beautiful, gaining a new appreciation for Mother Gaia – I cried at feeling the majestic connection. Worse yet, I cried, and felt the deep sorrow in the separation.

A friend recommended I go to Muir Park in San Francisco which I did today. When I stepped into the woods and saw the trees I just cried and cried, it felt like a release of some of the grief I feel since my mum’s death in March this year. Those trees were strong and comforting mothers and I shall never forget them.
