Student Perspectives: Hey YOU! Help Everyone Get Access to the REDWOODS!

Student Perspectives: This blog series was written by San Francisco State University students for the Recreational Use of Parks and Protected Areas course. The goal of the blog assignment was to show how student support of redwood parks can create new ways to foster equal access to nature by diverse communities. For this assignment, each student visited a local redwood park and wrote about their experience. Enjoy!

Hey YOU! Help Everyone Get Access to the REDWOODS!

The redwood parks are for everyone, no matter their race or ethnicity. But a lot of people do not get a chance to experience these beautiful and wonderful parks. Here is what you can do to help everyone get access to redwood parks today.

California's state parks have so much to offer, yet are underutilized. Pictured is Humboldt Redwoods SP, where League supporters have protected 50,000 acres.

  1. Actually go to the redwood parks: This is the number one way to support the parks. By going to the redwood parks, you create an experience for yourself that is one of a kind. This experience will naturally lead you to…
  2. Spread the word: Tell everyone far and near. Tell everyone about your great experience at these parks and they will want to come as well.
  3. Spread the cash: If you are financially able to, send a couple of dollars to the Redwoods General Fund. A little more money would immensely help redwood parks.
  4. Join the email list: Join the League’s email list to get emails about the new things that are going on in the redwoods. This way, you will never be out of the loop.
  5. Volunteer: The League and parks services are always looking for volunteers to help with a list of awesome park stuff. Who wouldn’t want to spend a day helping protect redwood parks?

If we do these actions listed above, access to the redwood parks would be greatly enhanced.
