Greenbelt Alliance: Roaming the Redwoods
April 9 @ 10:00 am - 2:00 pm$5
Join Greenbelt Alliance for a springtime hike through a sylvan treasure, Redwood Regional Park in the Oakland hills.
Oakland is named for the coast live oak. But did you know that Oakland was once home to some of the world’s largest redwoods? That ancient forest was logged during the gold rush, but we’ll walk in the shade of the impressive descendants of the original trees.
Total Distance: This a moderate four to five mile hike with less than 1,000 feet in elevation change.
Weather Policy: Rain cancels
Where to Meet: We’ll assemble at the Canyon Meadow Staging Area.
Enter the park at the Redwood Gate entrance off of Redwood Road. Drive to the paved parking lot at the end of the road into the park. If that lot is full, you can circle back to one of the overflow lots along the entrance road. There are restrooms near the beginning of the hike, and also along the way.
Leaders Note: Bring water, lunch, dress in layers and wear good hiking shoes. Bring poles if you normally use them. If you have any questions about this outing, email Ken Lavin or phone him at (415) 543-6771 x321.
