The Tramp and the Roughrider
May 16, 2015 @ 2:00 pm - 4:00 pm
John Muir is coming to Santa Cruz County! The living history presentation of The Tramp and the Roughrider will be presented at Big Basin Redwoods Campfire Center on Saturday, May 16, 2015 at 2:00 pm.
Mountain Parks Foundation, in cooperation with California State Parks, is proud to sponsor this interpretive program featuring Lee Stetson as John Muir and Alan Sutterfield as President Teddy Roosevelt. These skillful story tellers will illuminate an extraordinary encounter of two key figures in the preservation of America’s natural wonders.
Mr. Sutterfield has been an actor and playwright for many years, both in Hawaii and on the mainland. Mr. Stetson was the voice of Muir in Ken Burn’s television mini-series, “Our National Parks — America’s Best Idea.”
Each of these characters are feisty and opinionated, with sharp disagreements on issues like hunting, animal rights and forest management. Muir’s poetic and evangelistic temperament clashes with Roosevelt’s political enthusiasm, spawning both tension and humor. Both men are clever storytellers, you should expect that each one will seek to top the other by relating some of their many adventures in the wilderness of early America.
Mountain Parks Foundation is a non-profit partner of Big Basin Redwoods and Henry Cowell Redwoods State Parks and has been working to inspire support for both of these iconic parks since 1973.
Through large and small donations and other resources, the foundation sponsors children’s programs, interpretive panels, trail guides, maps and other literature that assist docents, park employees and our volunteers to expand the visitor’s knowledge and appreciation of these two distinctive parks
Don’t come late! Seating is FREE, but space is limited. A donation to Mountain Parks Foundation is requested. To join Mountain Parks Foundation or to find out more, please visit: www.mountainparks.org
