Thanks to more than 3,000 passionate League members, Save the Redwoods reached a major milestone to protect the ancient coast redwood Grove of Titans in Jedediah Smith Redwoods State Park. Our members donated over $500,000 by December 31, more than meeting the dollar-for-dollar match challenge by supporter Josie Merck. This means that over $1 million will go toward the $3.5 million goal to safeguard these majestic redwoods and provide safe visitor access.

The extraordinary grove contains some of the largest and oldest coast redwoods on Earth. So many visitors have sought out the Grove of Titans over the past several years that the understory has been damaged: 8,000 square feet of sensitive understory plants have been trampled, and a network of eroding trails now crisscross the surrounding area.

These tremendous gifts will go toward essential infrastructure updates to protect the Grove of Titans, including an elevated walkway, a visitor usage study for the grove’s primary access road, the retirement of unofficial “social” trails, and restoration of impacted lands.

We simply could not do our work without dedicated members like you. Thank you for helping us protect the splendor of the Grove of Titans for future generations to enjoy.
