As officials work to rebuild Big Basin Redwoods State Park following the CZU Complex fire that burned through 97% of the historical park in 2020, a bit of inspiration arrived in September on the wings of an endangered marbled murrelet.

Joanna Nelson, the League's director of science and conservation planning, offers an update on this year's wildfires in the Sierra Nevada that have impacted giant sequoia groves. Nelson, who is a fire ecologist, has been interviewed by news organizations around the country on the subject.
