The League recently restarted emergency restoration work in a popular giant sequoia grove to reduce fuels and the risk of severe climate-driven wildfires. In partnership with the USDA Forest Service, the League is restoring the 568-acre Long Meadow Grove, home to the famed Trail of 100 Giants.
Research from Cal Poly Humboldt University student José Juan Rodriguez Gutierrez, supported by the League, could inform the re-establishment of the endangered California condor near Redwood National Park.
Have a listen to This Is Big, a new League podcast that explores the world’s most fascinating forests and the culture we’ve built around them. We’re already two episodes in, with fascinating stories about the weird world of tunnel trees and how scientists really figure out how old redwoods are. Available below or wherever you get your pods.
