Tawil joined Save the Redwoods League in 2026 to lead the organization’s marketing, communications, and audience growth efforts, helping to connect new generations with the peace, beauty, and irreplaceable value of California’s redwood forests.
Tawil is a marketing and communications executive with more than two decades of experience helping mission-driven public interest organizations modernize their brands, reach new audiences, and translate complex issues into narratives that inspire action. She brings experience from leadership roles at ITVS (Independent Television Service), National Geographic Channel, and PBS, where she built and led high-performing teams, drove award-winning creative campaigns, and guided organizations through moments of visibility, change, and reputational challenge.
Under her leadership, ITVS earned an Institutional Peabody Award and a Television Academy Governor’s Award for systemic contributions to cultural representation and civic storytelling in media and delivered 300% year-over-year growth in streaming audiences. Tawil also led the brand narrative and editorial strategy for PBS Documentaries Brand, a first-of-its-kind partnership in public media aimed at developing a premiere destination for audiences to experience mission-driven, human-centered independent content. She began her career at PBS as a marketing strategist, where she was a key member of the team behind the landmark launch of Downton Abbey on MASTERPIECE and the two-time Primetime Emmy Award-winning documentary Ken Burns’ National Parks: America’s Best Idea.
Tawil holds a B.S. in Mass Communications/Media Studies from James Madison University. She is a board member of INPUT, an international nonprofit dedicated to public media collaboration, and Snarky Elephant Productions. Previously she served as an executive board member of The WICT Network, NorCal Chapter. Tawil is also a member of the Television Academy, Women in Film, NAMIC, and the International Academy of Digital Arts and Sciences; she has served as a judge for the Primetime Emmys, News & Documentary Emmys, The Global Entertainment Marketing Academy of Arts and Sciences, and the Webby Awards.
