San Francisco, Calif. (June 23, 2022) — Save the Redwoods League today announced that Ben Blom has joined the organization as director of stewardship and restoration. Blom will lead large-scale projects designed to rehabilitate California’s iconic coast redwood and giant sequoia forests. These include Redwoods Rising, which aims to restore tens of thousands of acres of historically clearcut forest in Redwood National and State Parks. Blom also will oversee the care and management of all League-owned lands, including large, old-growth forests at Harold Richardson Redwoods Reserve and Alder Creek, as well as the League’s portfolio of conservation easements.

“The restoration of California’s iconic redwood and sequoia forests is paramount. They need our help to recover from recent wildfires and to be managed for increased resilience in the face of climate change,” said Paul Ringgold, chief program officer for Save the Redwoods League. “With Ben Blom’s deep experience in this area, we will continue to protect our old-growth and restore the grandeur and ecological benefits of recovering second growth forests throughout the range.”

Blom brings more than 15 years of restoration and forestry management experience to Save the Redwoods League. He most recently held the role of field manager at the Bureau of Land Management where he oversaw restoration and management operations across 300,000 acres of public land in 10 Central California counties. Blom has held a number of positions with BLM since 2010.
Blom is a graduate of the Yale School of the Environment where he earned a Master of Forestry. He also holds a Bachelor of Arts in neuroscience from Colgate University.
