As fires burned in 2021, many of these bills were delivered to Gov. Gavin Newsom’s desk for his signature. He signed two bills that the League supported.

A Successful Prescribed Burn at Beaver Creek

Save the Redwoods League has successfully completed our first forestland prescribed burn at our Beaver Creek property! In collaboration with CAL FIRE, California State Parks, and our contractor Firestorm, a 20-acre unit of the 320-acre property was treated with fire last Friday under the guidance and supervision of our burn boss Ben Jacobs.

We and our partners used controlled burning to reduce non-native vegetation on a League-protected property.

Save the Redwoods just led a team of researchers and land stewards from all over California to learn about using prescribed fire (controlled burning) on private lands. During a brief burn window in October, crews from California State Parks and the National Park Service diligently worked to restore the natural process of fire to various ecosystems in over 2,800 acres of Redwood National and State Parks.
