Redwoods: Age Appropriate Education Materials

Our Redwoods series introduces children to one of our greatest natural treasures: the ancient coast redwood forest. Students find these materials friendly and easy to use. Teachers are delighted to discover that they complement current standard curriculum for grade ranges K-2, 3-5, 6-8, and 9-12.

Using the natural environment as a context in which to teach history, literature, writing, math, and science has been shown to improve student performance. We hope you will use Redwoods as a companion to your existing curriculum. Click below to view each publication (Adobe Reader required).

Curriculum: Redwood Ed

Redwood Ed: A Guide to the Coast Redwoods, written by Michael Roa, is designed to help educators teach about the redwood forest.

Since 1918, Save the Redwoods League has saved ancient redwood forests and redwood ecosystems to ensure that current and future generations can feel the awe and peace that these precious natural wonders inspire. We also save redwoods because they are rare — their natural range is only in central and northern California and southern Oregon — and because they are Earth’s tallest and some of the oldest and most massive living beings.
