Grant Application Guidelines

What We Do (Save the Redwoods League's work)

Research proposals should seek to expand our understanding of the coast redwood, giant sequoia, or the ecosystems in which they are key components. Grants are awarded to study redwood biology, redwood ecosystem maintenance or restoration, potential effects of global climate change, and/or sustained public use for redwood areas. Applied research or research that informs redwood conservation, restoration and/or public use is welcome.

One of Save the Redwoods League's objectives is to widely disseminate the results of completed studies. Applicants are expected to provide a final report, suitable for posting on the League's Web site, and a synopsis suitable for a broad public audience.

Application Instructions

In 2010, Save the Redwoods League must receive applications on or before November 5. Individual requests to the League should not exceed $15,000 and matching funds are encouraged. Grant proposals will be reviewed in November and decisions announced shortly thereafter. Grant applicants will only be accepted from qualified organizations such as a school, university, or public charity. The League cannot provide grants to individuals, for-profit organizations, or organizations engaged in lobbying. Grant reports are expected within 13 months from the date the work is started. Proposals to take advantage of unanticipated events may be considered outside the regular grant cycle. Please contact us directly to discuss this.

Please contact Laura Kindsvater at (415) 820-5826 or lkindsvater@savetheredwoods.org to discuss your project before submitting your proposal.

Since 1918, Save the Redwoods League has saved ancient redwood forests and redwood ecosystems to ensure that current and future generations can feel the awe and peace that these precious natural wonders inspire. We also save redwoods because they are rare — their natural range is only in central and northern California and southern Oregon — and because they are Earth’s tallest and some of the oldest and most massive living beings.
