Land Acquisition Program
The League's mission is to ensure that ancient redwood forests survive
and flourish in perpetuity. We are dedicated to the long-term preservation
of a healthy redwood ecosystem. Our primary conservation tool is acquisition
of forestland at fair-market value from willing sellers.
Since its formation, the League has helped protect more than 177,000 acres of California land. From Oregon to the
tip of Big Sur, the League is the only organization focused on conservation
of the redwood forest throughout its natural range.
Acquisitions History
When the League purchases land, it is generally donated to state or national
parks. Through its actions, the League has made thousands of acres of redwood
land available for permanent protection and public enjoyment. The League
made its first land acquisition in 1921. Since then, we have acquired land
and donated it to 57 state parks, national parks
and other reserves. View the

Recent Projects
Thanks to the support of more than 21,000 members, Save-the Redwoods League
recently completed several exciting acquisitions.
- We negotiated the purchase of the 25,000-acre Mill
Creek Redwoods, ensuring complete watershed protection for some
of the most spectacular ancient groves left today, those of Jedediah
Smith Redwoods State Park. Mill Creek was the largest single acquisition
in League history.
- We completed the purchase of the magnificent Dillonwood
Grove and its addition to Sequoia National Park. Through this purchase,
more than 70% of privately owned giant sequoia forest was placed under permanent
protection.
- We safeguarded an ancient grove near Butano State Park in the Santa
Cruz Mountains, home to towering stands of old-growth coast redwoods
and nesting sites for the endangered marbled murrelet.
