Redwoods Rising and Grove of Titans receive awards
One of John Muir’s famous quotes is “The mountains are calling, and I must go.” For me, the redwoods are calling, and I must go. I am an active Titaneer volunteer working the Grove of Titans trail in Jedediah Smith …
“As interpreters, our job is to help connect people with these special places,” says Robbins. “What better group of people to help make meaning of the places we steward than the folks who have been most connected to these landscapes for the last 10,000 years?”
Realigned Mill Creek Trail and new boardwalk through the famed grove now open for visitors to Redwood National and State Parks
California State Parks, Save the Redwoods League, National Park Service, and Redwood Parks Conservancy partner to protect and to improve visitor access to the Grove of Titans in Jedediah Smith Redwoods — one of the last remnants of old-growth coast redwood forest and home to some of the world’s largest coast redwoods.
The renovation project will establish official, safe access to the Grove, provide ecosystem protections for the trees, visitor services and amenities, including a new restroom facility where the Mill Creek Trail meets Howland Hill Road.
Home of some of the tallest and most extraordinary trees in the Santa Cruz Mountains, Portola Redwoods State Park provides visitors with a much-needed escape from life in nearby Silicon Valley.
Thanks to more than 3,000 passionate League members, Save the Redwoods reached a major milestone to protect the ancient coast redwood Grove of Titans in Jedediah Smith Redwoods State Park. Our members donated over $500,000 by December 31, more than meeting the dollar-for-dollar match challenge by supporter Josie Merck. This means that over $1 million will go toward the $3.5 million goal to safeguard these majestic redwoods and provide safe visitor access.
#GivingTREESday is a chance to see our community of redwoods supporters come together, and this year was no exception. Thanks to our dedicated members, we hit our $50,000 goal!
Discovered in 1998, the Grove of Titans is a stand of gargantuan coast redwoods immured deep in the lush Mill Creek watershed. Their discovery was a momentous occasion in the world of redwoods conservation and science, and soon led to concerns about visitor impacts.
