California State Parks (CSP) honored Save the Redwoods League on May 19, 2010, with its prestigious Dewitt Award for Partnership, which recognizes commitment above and beyond the call of duty in protecting public lands over a substantial time period. CSP presents this award to those who have served as irreplaceable partners in the accomplishment of its mission.

Since our establishment in 1918, the League has assisted in the purchase of more than 187,000 acres to protect redwoods and helped develop 62 redwood parks and reserves that capture the diversity of the redwood forest for everyone to enjoy.

The Dewitt award was named after its first recipient, John B. Dewitt (1937-1996), who devoted his life to the protection of public lands. During his 30 years as Executive Director of Save the Redwoods League, the League raised $65 million and purchased more than 30,000 acres of redwood forest for public parks and preserves.
