Save the Redwoods League wins conservation award

In recognition of its many achievements safeguarding California redwoods for future generations, Save the Redwoods League recently received the Conservationist of the Year Award from The Wildlife Society – Western Section. This award is presented by The Wildlife Society-Western Section to a person or group, engaged in wildlife conservation either as a profession or as an avocation, who has made an outstanding contribution to wildlife conservation in California, Nevada, Hawaii or Guam. The Conservationist of the Year Award was first presented in 1979. Since then, there have been many deserving individuals and organizations that have received this award. Previous winners include the Yosemite Conservancy, The Trust for Public Land, California Wildlife Conservation Board, Point Reyes Bird Observatory, Desert Tortoise Institute, Nevada Bighorn Unlimited, Yolo Basin Foundation, Conservation Biology Institute, and the California Waterfowl Association among others.

The Wildlife Society is an international non-profit scientific and educational association dedicated to excellence in wildlife stewardship through science and education. Its mission is to enhance the ability of wildlife professionals and wildlife students to conserve diversity, sustain productivity, and ensure responsible use of wildlife resources and their habitats. The Western Section was established in 1954 and is comprised of over 1000 wildlife managers, biologists, ecologists, and students from California, Nevada, Hawaii, and Guam all devoted to the sustainable conservation of wildlife in the western United States region.
