Video: Explore new trails at the San Vicente Redwoods

Late last year, a new network of trails opened to the public at the San Vicente Redwoods in the Santa Cruz Mountains. This new access is the culmination of a partnership between the League, SempervirensFund, Peninsula Open Space Trust (POST), and the Land Trust of Santa Cruz County to protect and restore this landscape and make it available to the public to enjoy. The 7+ miles of new trails are the first phase of a proposed 38-mile trail system offering ocean views and a forest in recovery from logging and the CZU wildfire.

Thanks for the video – we haven’t been out much since COVID, so this is helpful on many counts. If we do get up in the Santa Cruz area we will check the trail out.

It grieves me to see bicycles in the forest. The errosion damage that the continuous groove the tires make is obvious and frequently irreversible. There is also the problem for hikers having to avoid collision as byciclists who approach there adventure as a sport which values power and speed. At the speeds bycicles can go the rider will not see bugs, snakes or other creatures who might be trying to cross the path. There is considerable documentation supportng my concerns.
