Tell Governor Newsom and your representatives: California must prioritize redwood forest conservation.
California’s Greenhouse Gas Reduction Fund (GGRF) provides crucial funding for nature-based strategies proven to store vast amounts of planet-warming carbon, improve wildfire resilience, and benefit the communities hit hardest by climate change. Restoring healthy redwood ecosystems is a critical part of these efforts, and the GGRF is key to our continued progress.
Save the Redwoods League joins the large community of scientists and conservation organizations calling on Governor Gavin Newsom and the California Legislature to invest GGRF funds into nature-based climate strategies.
California’s old-growth redwood forests store more carbon per acre than any other forest in the world, yet they face worsening drought and extreme wildfire conditions. The GGRF can help safeguard redwood forests and parks, support clean air and drinking water, and reduce the risk of high-intensity wildfires.
This is an opportunity for Governor Newsom to demonstrate his continued commitment to advancing California’s conservation priorities and wildfire resilience through programs backed by science. Together, we can raise our voices and call upon lawmakers to do what’s best for Californians and the redwoods.
Please send a message to your elected representatives today, asking them to invest GGRF funds into redwood forest health and resilience.
