|Recurring Event (See all)

An event every day that begins at 12:00 am, repeating until June 18, 2023

Hello Save the Redwoods League staff, partners and volunteers!

We have great news: The second annual California State Parks Week returns on June 14-18, 2023! You’re all invited to participate.

Presented by California State ParksSave the Redwoods League, Parks California, and California State Parks Foundation, this event celebrates California’s 280 state parks and the people who visit and help protect these iconic places.

We invite you to visit any state park throughout the week and help us celebrate! More information is coming soon about specific events and programs in redwood and giant sequoia parks, and here’s a list of some of those parks in the areas where many of the League’s staff and volunteers live:

You may also be interested in finding ways to support other state parks–if so, please feel free to reach out to us at the League.

To give you some spoilers, here are this year’s themes, along with examples of types of programs you can look forward to:

  • June 14: Explore New Experiences–We want to encourage visitors to find new ways to enjoy state parks, from camping to interpretive hikes to off-roading, and everything in between. Some activities could be ranger-led bird walks, traditional craft making with Indigenous partners, or guided kayak tours.
  • June 15: Nourish Your Health and Well-Being–We know well that time in public outdoor spaces and parks can benefit people’s physical, mental, and emotional well-being. State Parks staff can give California’s communities opportunities to tap into this by offering options such as guided meditation or forest bathing in the park, or handy guides to a park’s best running trails to get people’s hearts pumping.
  • June 16: Support Climate Resilience–Many people who call California home are naturally eager to learn what we can all do to help public lands be resilient to climate change. This is our opportunity to educate the public on protecting and stewarding lands in state parks as part of those efforts. Enjoy some interpretive walks and virtual programs.
  • June 17: Celebrate Community and Culture–Saturdays are for fun, friends, and family! We’re bringing visitors together at state parks on this special day with inclusive community and cultural events–from art workshops to affinity hikes hosted by local partners to a full-on party with food vendors, music, and dancing. Key word: celebrate!
  • June 18: Care for Our Shared Lands–We’ll close out the week by engaging visitors with what it means to steward our shared parks, because we don’t do this alone. We may see activities such as volunteer stewardship days, beach cleanups, or talks given by parks partners that can inspire visitors to contribute to keeping state parks protected and beautiful.

Please note our public launch date is Wednesday, March 15 at 9:00 AM
