Driving through Redwoods National Park.
I just updated a blog post on the redwoods, and it brought my back some good memories. I especially loved trying to capture that filtered sunlight through the massive trees.
This exposure was 0.6 seconds long. Can you guess who can’t stay still even for that short of time? 😂
We discovered Hendy Woods last year and it has quickly become one of our favorite state parks to visit! In case you are looking to visit this park and the surrounding area, here are some of our favorite things to do inside and outside the park: 🥾 Hike the Discovery Trail to Big Hendy Grove. Make sure you go all the way to the Upper Loop and Back Loop to see the biggest trees in the grove. 🌲 From the campground you can hike down to the Little Hendy Grove. This grove is smaller but equally impressive. We didn’t see a single person there last time we visited. One highlight of this trail is that you descend into the grove, getting a view of the trees from above. 🍎 Go apple cider tasting at Gowan’s, right outside the park. You can also visit their roadside store and load up on delicious apple treats. 🚗 Drive through the Navarro River Redwoods State Park and marvel at the giant trees lining the road. 🏝 On a nice summer day, you can drive to Big River Beach in Mendocino for a fun beach day. This spot is gorgeous, and great for paddle boarding and splashing in the water. 🍦 If you go the beach, stop in the town of Mendocino for dinner or just ice cream before heading back to the park. 🏕 For lodging, we’ve stayed outside the park on an airbnb in the Anderson Valley, and inside the park at the campground. Both were lovely, but we certainly prefer camping as it’s way more affordable and you get to sleep outside and wake up surrounded by beautiful nature! Save this post for later if you are planning a visit to Hendy Woods SP!

“The world is big and I want to have a good look at it before it gets dark.” ~ John Muir I feel so lucky to be able to show my kids amazing places like this. There’s no feeling in the world that comes close to that of walking in a redwood forest. #california #visitcalifornia #mycastatepark #redwoods4ever #californiaredwoods #hendywoods #findyourpark #redwoodforest #redwoods #mendocino #mendocinocounty #coastalredwoods #rediscovercalifornia #takeyourkidseverywhere #travelwithkids #californiahikes #1000hoursoutside #showthemtheworld #californiakids #familytraveller #adventuretime #intothewoods #beautifuldestinations #dametraveler
An intact grove of old growth redwoods along the Del Norte Coast. Every time I visit a redwood forest I can't help but think of how close we were to losing these natural wonders. Much of what is left is because of savetheredwoods. If you'd like to help preserve and protect redwood forest please visit the link in my bio and consider a donation. Their current Forever Forest campaign has resulted in the protection of Alder Creek, the last large privately owned giant sequoia property. Is there another public lands or environment cause that you think I should share on my account? Please let me know in the comments or DM! #redwoods4ever #California #Redwoods #Redwoodnationalpark #RawCalifornia #wildcalifornia #SavetheRedwoods

The very basic core of a man's living spirit is his passion for adventure. The joy of life comes from our encounters with new experiences, and hence there is no greater joy than to have an endlessly changing horizon, for each day to have a new and different sun. ~ Jon Krakauer, Into the Wild

May the 4th be with you. Many of you know that scenes from Return of the Jedi were filmed in Redwood National and State Parks. What can we say? California’s mighty redwood forests are otherworldly, for sure. #redwoods4ever
