New exhibit commemorates ancient fallen ‘tunnel tree’

Save the Redwoods League, California State Parks, and Calaveras Big Trees Association opened the Pioneer’s Cabin Tree interpretive exhibit in the North Grove last July after storms toppled the tree in 2017.

New Oakland Exhibit Reveals History of Area’s Once-Ancient Forest

Did you know the ancient coast redwoods that once stood in the San Francisco Bay Area’s East Bay were thought to have been some of the largest? Now you can learn about this history and see the footprint of a giant redwood that once stood in Roberts Regional Recreation Area. The League and East Bay Regional Park District recently unveiled a permanent exhibit.

Legacy & Leadership: Celebrating 100 Years with our Supporters

We’re just over halfway through the year, and 2018 has already proven to be legendary for Save the Redwoods League. As you have probably heard, this year is the League’s 100th birthday, which has been a joyous cause for celebration! I am so glad that we were able to share our festivities and show our appreciation for members of the Redwood Legacy Circle, who have committed to the long-term protection of the redwoods by including the League in their estate plans.

Redwoods Star in New Giants of Land & Sea Exhibit

At the California Academy of Science’s new Giants of Land and Sea exhibit, you can explore the forest canopy virtually through an immersive video experience, walk through a fog room to feel how this fixture of coastal climate bathes the redwoods during the summer, and learn about the intrinsic connection between the forest and Pacific Ocean.

The exhibit, Sustaining Grandeur: The First 100 Years of Save the Redwoods League, features letters from presidents of the United States and First Ladies, historical photos of coast redwoods and giant sequoia, artifacts and films from the past century, and much more.
