Save the Redwoods League today announced Free Friday in the Redwoods — free admission to 49 participating California redwood state parks on Black Friday, November 27, 2015.

Save the Redwoods League Elects Justin Faggioli as Board of Directors Chair, Re-Elects Samuel M. Livermore as Vice Chair

Save the Redwoods League, the only nonprofit organization in the world dedicated to protecting redwood forests throughout their natural range, today announced the election of Justin Faggioli, Samuel M. Livermore, C. Blake Williams and Andy Vought as officers to its Board of Directors. Board members Faggioli, Livermore and Vought have been elected chair, vice chair and secretary, respectively, while incoming Board member Williams has been elected Treasurer. William Croft and Wendy Hayward are also joining the Board, bringing extensive executive and philanthropic experience to the League.

Future Coastal Climate Not Cool for Redwood Forests

In a study published in the research journal Global Change Biology, climate scientists from the University of California and NatureServe conclude that a warmer future with normal rainfall on California’s coast will leave coast redwoods south of San Francisco Bay with significantly different climate than they have experienced for decades.

Community Leaders and Conservation Groups Applaud Senator Boxer’s California Coastal National Monument Expansion Act

Los Altos, Calif. August 5, 2015 – San Francisco and Monterey Bay Area community leaders and conservation groups praise legislation introduced today by U.S. Senator Barbara Boxer along with Senator Diane Feinstein to bring national monument designation to Cotoni-Coast Dairies in Santa Cruz County and five other federally-owned lands along the California coast.

Boxer’s legislation, the California Coastal National Monument Expansion Act, would permanently protect the ecological, cultural and scenic resources at six different sites totaling 6,200 acres throughout the state, while ensuring that current and future generations will be able to access and enjoy these nationally significant conservation lands in ways that are compatible with resource preservation and restoration goals.

More Kids to Visit Redwood Forests in 2014 – 15

SAN FRANCISCO, CA (October 13, 2014) — More students will visit California’s redwoods this year thanks to San Francisco-based Save the Redwoods League’s annual educational grant program.

The League has awarded over $106,000 to 24 schools, parks and educational organizations to help students get outdoors for enriching and educational experiences among the redwoods. Grant winners are located throughout Northern California, from Oakland’s Chabot Space and Science Center serving low-income youth, to Santa Cruz’s Every Child Outdoors Science School and Mendocino Area Parks Association’s field trip program. State Saves Redwood Forests Near Silicon Valley From Development

The State of California has stepped in to save more than 8,500 acres of redwood forestlands, waterways and wildlife habitat near Silicon Valley from development. In an 2-0 vote, members of the California Wildlife Conservation Board (WCB) granted $10 million to Save the Redwoods League to establish a conservation agreement that will permanently protect San Vicente Redwoods.
