More than 30 events in the redwoods

Imagine a party – no, an outdoor celebration – that happens simultaneously over five days across the entire state of California, where everyone is invited and more than 180 different activities are scheduled, from guided hikes through the redwoods to walks on the beach to group yoga to nature journaling to learning about living Indigenous culture, and everything in between. That’s California State Parks Week, and it’s starting on Wednesday, June 15. As someone whose career is devoted to connecting people from all walks of life to the wonders of nature, I can hardly think of a more exciting event.
If you haven’t already, I encourage you to go to the California State Parks Week website and find an adventure that’s just right for you.
No matter what you’re interested in—hiking, camping, Indigenous traditions, California history, forest bathing, smelling the wildflowers, or having a party with your friends and family—California State Parks Week is for you. Everyone is welcome and invited to enjoy the parks in ways that are personally fulfilling and meaningful. California’s incredible diversity, in all respects, is built right into this event.
California State Parks are particularly important for the League, and our connection runs deep. The first state park was a redwood park, and our organization played a key role in founding the state park system. Of the 280 parks in the system, 49 include coast redwoods or giant sequoias. The League has contributed land to 40 parks over the years and helped restore and improve many others.
But it’s more than history. The League works closely with California State Parks on a daily basis to improve the redwood parks and create opportunities for greater access to these treasures. We’re proud to join California State Parks, Parks California, and California State Parks Foundation to present California State Parks Week.
All this is to say that we hope to see you out there for California State Parks Week this year. These parks belong to you. Ours is the largest state park system in the country, and it is among California’s truly great offerings. Let’s enjoy it together.
