Redwood playlist #5

The League’s Marcos Castineiras put together this mellow Spotify playlist that nicely captures the feeling of a morning in the redwoods. Hit play and you can almost feel the dappled sunlight coming through the canopy.

Defiant Redwood of the Week: Stagg Tree

on

The Stagg Tree is the fifth largest known tree in the world, centuries old. The League acquired this great tree as part of its recent acquisition of Alder Creek. At eye level, it has so many scars on its trunk from fire and weather that it’s hard to imagine what the original tree looked like. At some point, fire got through the bark of this massive tree and carved out a tunnel that now stands as some kind of flying buttress. But the tree lives on, growing wider and taller.

I am a teacher, and have taught outdoor classes in the Redwoods quite a bit. I love this story. It is a very interesting and beautifully illustrated book that is quite informative for adults as well as children. I have a good friend who is a great friend of the Redwoods, and she created a children’s book about the Redwoods that is also beautifully illustrated and educational. Would you like to see her book? She is a teacher who lives in Boulder Creek, CA and is one of the most wonderful and caring people, and is also a huge supporter of Redwoods. Thank you for all that you are doing. My day is enriched by your great website and everything you do. When I get my income up to where it was before Covid 19, I will donate. Thank you!
