Save the Redwoods League Elects Justin Faggioli as Board of Directors Chair, Re-Elects Samuel M. Livermore as Vice Chair

Save the Redwoods League, the only nonprofit organization in the world dedicated to protecting redwood forests throughout their natural range, today announced the election of Justin Faggioli, Samuel M. Livermore, C. Blake Williams and Andy Vought as officers to its Board of Directors. Board members Faggioli, Livermore and Vought have been elected chair, vice chair and secretary, respectively, while incoming Board member Williams has been elected Treasurer. William Croft and Wendy Hayward are also joining the Board, bringing extensive executive and philanthropic experience to the League.

Conservation Groups Applaud California Coastal National Monument Expansion Act

San Francisco and Monterey Bay Area community leaders and conservation groups praise legislation introduced today by U.S. Senator Barbara Boxer along with Senator Diane Feinstein to bring national monument designation to Cotoni-Coast Dairies in Santa Cruz County and five other federally-owned lands along the California coast.

A generous bequest resulted in the League's support of the new visitor center at Calaveras Big Trees State Park. You can plan a trip to this redwood park.

Members’ Generosity Helps Open New Calaveras Visitor Center

Now James and Carmen Hickling’s love for Calaveras Big Trees lives on through a generous bequest, which supported construction of the park’s new visitor center. The center hosted a grand opening last Memorial Day. This new center honors the legacy of those who preserved these groves in the past, and tells the story of the giant sequoias.

Trip Ideas, Father’s Day Ecards

You can take your dad to the redwoods on Father’s Day this Sunday, June 15. In honor of dads, Roaring Camp Railroad in Felton will host a special barbecue and steam train ride through the towering redwood forest of the Santa Cruz Mountains. Henry Cowell Redwoods State Park is nearby for a post-ride hike.

Bridge, Tunnel Open, Thanks to You

  • Thanks to your gifts, the seasonal Standish-Hickey bridge is now open, restoring visitor access for the first time in three years to 61 stunning redwoods campsites.
  • Skunk Train service from Willits has resumed after your League gifts enabled repair of a collapsed tunnel. Riding the train is the only way to see the ancient Noyo River Redwoods that you protected in 2011. Service from Fort Bragg is expected to resume later this month.

Save the Redwoods League Thanks Ruskin K. Hartley for 15 Years of Service to Protect Redwood Forests

SAN FRANCISCO (November 1, 2012)—Save the Redwoods League, the only nonprofit organization dedicated to protecting ancient redwoods throughout their natural range, today accepted Ruskin K. Hartley’s resignation. After 15 years of service to Save the Redwoods League and the redwoods, Hartley feels it is time for new challenges. For six of the 15 years, Hartley served as the League’s Executive Director and Secretary to the Board of Directors.
