Voters said #YesOn68 for Clean Water & Safe Parks

On June 5, Californians passed Proposition 68, the Clean Water and Safe Parks Act, authorizing $4.1 billion in support of our state’s water, parks, and natural resources. With Prop 68 passed, the League and our partners will be able to improve existing redwood parks and reserves, like the historically logged forests within Redwood National and State Parks, making them more accessible and more resilient to drought, wildfire, and flood.

Inaugural Reading the Redwoods contest is in the books

Across 34 states, 880 children participated in the inaugural Reading the Redwoods contest, the first of its kind to encourage reading about these iconic national treasures. The free online contest ran for eight weeks and helped to foster a love for nature, forests, and especially redwoods.

Show Your Support for Clean Water, Safe Parks

As a California voter, you can make a transformational investment in our redwood forests and parks, and our state’s water resources by voting “yes” on June 5 for Proposition 68, the Clean Water and Safe Parks Act of 2018. The act would provide sorely needed funding to improve parks with new trails and visitor amenities and help our redwood parks remain healthy as the climate changes and our population grows. Give Thanks for a Conservation Victory

Good news about America’s most important conservation program: Save the Redwoods League and our conservation partners are celebrating recent bipartisan federal legislation that increases spending for the Land and Water Conservation Fund (LWCF). Thanks to our lawmakers, many critical conservation and recreational access projects will receive funding this year. Urge your member of Congress to reauthorize LWCF before it expires in September.

The League’s century of shaping public policy has protected California’s iconic coast redwood and giant sequoia forests for everyone to experience. Congratulations to Muir Woods National Monument on its 110th anniversary January 9! This magnificent place near San Francisco is often where visitors from California and throughout the world see the coast redwood forest for the first time. Over a million tourists from across the globe stream into this treasured forest for a walk among its breathtaking redwoods each year. As you may have heard, starting on January 16, parking and shuttle reservations will be required.

Conifer-Themed Dinner Party Supports Education

Thanks to all who joined us last night for a conifer-inspired dinner party at Lazy Bear restaurant in San Francisco. The event, generously supported by Dodge & Cox, benefited the League’s education programs, which bring more than 7,000 young people to the redwood forest annually.

Permanent Protection for Dramatic Forest

on

About a 2½-hour drive north of San Francisco, the League’s magnificent 870-acre Stewarts Point property has taken another step forward on its conservation and restoration journey. New agreements permanently protect the redwood forest, coast and a stretch of the South Fork Gualala River. Agreements will also grant an indigenous tribe permanent access to the seaside bluffs for ceremonies and ensure a public trail will open in 2019.

35,000 Visitors Join Us for Green Friday

More than 35,000 people ventured into 116 state parks throughout California for Green Friday the day after Thanksgiving, an event hosted by Save the Redwoods League, California State Parks, and California State Parks Foundation. The event raised awareness of the state park system and promoted enjoyment and appreciation of California’s beautiful state parks.
